Pilo is the main musical output of Los Angeles based producer, composer and sound designer, Cameron Ward. Fusing sounds from a wide gamma of influences ranging from techno and electro to industrial, ambient and beyond, Pilo presents a unique conceptualization of various genres and styles merged by his own signature voice. “I started becoming good friends with Portrait XO as I had my time in Berlin during 2019 to 2021. Gutto Serta is a Berlin-based musician, producer and DJ. His taste blends organic and digital sounds, the overall effect is a music vision that speaks to the soul of its listeners. Through the twelve x twelve creative community, Gutto Serta learned about Portrait XO's album project and wanted to be a part of it: “ it's something new and inspiring for me to collaborate with an AI artist, who is using technology to create music. Another chaotic expression of listening to countless hours of strange AI-generated audio. This track has longer phrases of untouched AI vocals after discovering longer tangible results from day 2 of training. The AI-generated visuals for this track was the first video I created using a new workflow on pollinations.ai. First, creating an audioreacive video with Lucid Sonic Dreams, then text-to-image VQGAN (CLIP) model with text prompt ‘gold and holographic dreams through a looking glass in hyperspace, lenticular print’. While I’m not from Mongolia, I often question my DNA as many people point out that I look Mongolian. While learning about Mongol invasion of Korea, I question my roots especially as an American Korean, I’ve never felt deeply connected to the history of my ethnical background.

"I’ve been revisiting my childhood a lot over the last several years contemplating on how the concept of love changes through time. While thinking about past memories, 2 audio clips jumped out at me ‘haha’ and ‘love is misleading’. Another really strange coincidental moment. I had to step away from my laptop, I stood up and stared at my screen bewildered in awe. After finishing this album, I decided to try another experiment by taking ‘love is misleading’ and submitted it as a text prompt to talk2transformer. I was so stunned with the result, I created another track featuring the GPT-2 text + Nomeee to narrate which became a last minute addition to this album." - Portrait XO

"Written in the perspective of an AI physical robot singing to its human creator: human creates the robot to fulfill all its desires and needs of emotional and intellectual connection. The chorus resolves to ‘Is it the greed? I wish I knew how to love you but you take it with no consent and I don’t know how to contend, I’m just plastic skin’. The robot basically points out that based on the data analysis of the erratic and unpredictable demands of human emotional needs, love proves to be inconclusive."

“I met Portrait XO during the Factory Berlin x Sónar+D x Beats by Dr.Dre Artist in Residence program and was inspired by her take on AI driven music and experiments with the human voice. When asked if I wanted to contribute a remix of one of the tracks off WIRE I picked PLASTIC SKIN as it immediately resonated with me. I decided to retain the original track's narrative and focus more on processing and layering sounds through a modular system rather than drifting too far away from the well balanced source material. The remix draws various aspects of leftfield electronic music to present a hybrid club vision of the co-creation of human / machine relations.” - Einar

Einar Fehrholz is working as a musician, sound designer, DJ and curator. His field of work includes club related electronica, spheric sound-installations, musical compositions and sound design. Creating dense sonically journeys and presenting a complexity of different soundscapes without losing the reference to contemporary off-kilter dance music. Within his musical works he tries to explore the boundaries of human perception and emotion.

‘Vessel’ is a song co-created between Portrait XO and Rezar in collaboration with open source AI models for audio training. Using both of their vocals as a dataset, the recordings were trained on 2 AI models to create separate instruments and also train both vocals together. Portrait XO’s approach to attempt morphing 2 voices into each other through different methods for this song was praised by Imogen Heap during the AI Song Contest 2021. This song was written and recorded in 2 weeks, and this is a remastered version of the song.
